How to Tell if Your Double-Pane Windows Need to be Replaced

Published on

New double-pane windows offer a host of benefits for homeowners in Rochester, one being increased energy efficiency. Whether you’re exploring online or with an expert at a showroom, energy efficiency is a critical factor in the purchasing process for replacement windows. Double-pane windows are a great choice if you’re searching for better efficiency.

A lot of new double-pane windows are full of argon, a colorless, nontoxic gas that is more dense than air, which leaves you with additional insulation from heat and cold.. However, if you note that your windows have become “foggy” or if they have developed condensation, you may have developed a larger leak and the gas has been substituted with moisture. There are a few things that you can do to check to see if this is what’s happened:

  1. Clean the exterior and interior portion of your glass to ensure that the condensation or fog you’re finding is in between the glass, not on the glass.
  2. If you determine the moisture is in fact between the glass, you can reach out to the manufacturer to find out if you can make a warranty claim.
Depending on how old your windows are and the conditions causing the leak, it may make sense to take a look at replacement windows. Insulation is one of the most important features of your windows, and if that is compromised it can change your heating and cooling costs.
